Building Rural Better

In Mountain View County, we strive to maintain our rural lifestyle and heritage, while finding innovative ways to build sustainable communities for the future. This is why we say we're Building Rural Better.

It's Happening Here!

Situated in the heart of Alberta's Calgary -Edmonton corridor, Mountain View County straddles the province's main north-south transportation corridor- the Queen Elizabeth II highway (the QEII). On average, between 28,000 and 32,000 vehicles travel the QEII each day bringing new visitors and new opportunities to the residents of Mountain View County. In addition to the QEII, some of Alberta's busiest secondary highways, and the Canadian Pacific Railway's Calgary - Edmonton line, run through the middle of our municipality making it an ideal place to situate your business. Air traffic can also access Mountain View at two local airports - Olds / Didsbury and Sundre - with international travelers easily accommodated at Calgary's International Airport located half an hour away.

Diverse, Leading Edge Economies

It was agriculture which first brought settlers to Mountain View County. Homesteaders wisely chose this region over a century ago for its ample rainfall and fertile soils. Today, agriculture is still a vital economic engine of Mountain View County. Over 30 per cent of our labour force work in a sector that has now diversified into globally marketed value-added crops and livestock. In addition, Mountain View is blessed with an abundance of natural resources, which support thriving oil and gas, forestry and industrial sectors. Striving to be on the leading edge of development, Mountain View County is actively pursuing opportunities in economic diversification, such as our Netook Crossing industrial / commercial development near the Town of Olds .

Inter-Municipal Cooperation Works!

Mountain View County is not an island. Together with our urban partners- Carstairs, Cremona , Didsbury , Olds and Sundre - we welcome individuals, businesses and organizations who recognize the value of economic diversification and a progressive tax environment. We work constantly to achieve regional cooperation, building strong relationships on an inter-municipal, provincial and federal basis. In cooperation with our urban partners, the Municipal Area Partnership (MAP) group has coordinated numerous inter-municipal initiatives, including agreements on regional fire protection, family services, recreation and culture. Our efforts did not go unnoticed in 2009, as MAP was the recipient of both the Minister's Award for Municipal Excellence- Outstanding Award , and the CAEP Annual Achievement Awards - Collaboration / Partnership for its efforts in promoting inter-municipal cooperation.

Progressive, Educated Workforce

Mountain View County residents have access to superb schools - both in the County at Reed Ranch, Midway and Koinonia Christian School - and in our neighbouring urban municipalities. Post secondary opportunities abound at Olds College, home of the innovative Community Learning Campus educational and cultural facility.
